For the lobbies of the MacArthur Court office buildings in Newport, California, WRAPPED was commissioned to create a collection of large scale art that would compliment the space’s bright travertine marble and reflect the natural beauty of nearby Newport Beach. WRAPPED created a collection that draws on the rich palette and abstracted structures produced by light refraction on the Pacific Ocean. The imagery of the artwork was crafted to appear iridescent and ethereal, giving the artwork a subtle yet resolutely aquatic appearance. The two sets within the collection reference different color schemes drawn from light shimmering off the ocean at different times throughout the day. The set with the golden hues was inspired by reflections off of water in the morning, whereas the set with blue hues draws from the color of the Pacific during midday. The sheer scale of the collection was inspired by the expansive views of the Pacific and the grand scale of the MacArthur Court buildings.
